On 29 January 2024, Globethics and the Faculty of Business and Economics at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta formally launched their collaboration to develop the Responsible Leadership Course. The partnership was grounded in a shared understanding that business education must go beyond managerial skills and economic analysis. In a context marked by declining public trust and recurring governance challenges, ethics needs to be embedded at the core of learning.

The Responsible Leadership Course was designed as both a reflective and practical space. The initiative began with a seven-day intensive training for lecturers, covering core concepts, case discussions, and the contextual adaptation of international modules to better fit the Indonesian setting. Rather than focusing solely on abstract moral theory, the course adopts a dilemma-based learning approach, addressing real conflicts that leaders encounter in business organizations and public policy environments.
Through this method, participants explore not only what is normatively right, but also how decisions are made when values collide. Discussions reflect everyday realities in the professional world, including conflicts of interest, performance pressures, regulatory relationships, and corporate social responsibility.
The collaboration extends beyond initial training. Curriculum integration is being implemented gradually, supported by joint certification mechanisms. The aim is not simply to introduce a new subject but to nurture a more responsible leadership culture from within educational institutions.
This Responsible Leadership model is designed with scalability in mind. It offers a framework that can be adapted by other higher education institutions and extended to broader professional sectors. By strengthening ethical foundations early in the educational journey, meaningful and lasting leadership reform becomes more attainable.
